Latinitas in El Paso has an upcoming event. This friday, young girls who participated in Latinitas’ photo workshops will be featured in the Dos Mundos exhibit at La Fe Cultural Center. The photography programs that Latinitas organizes for young girls are looking to empower girls by teaching them multimedia journalism tools so they can express themselves.

I was talking to the program coordinator in Austin, Leslie Guerrero, and she says that most girls have something to say and Latinitas Online Magazine and its new print version allows them a space to express themselves and be heard about issues that particularly concern young girls with hispanic backgrounds. They find safety and support in the amazing blog/ning group they have set up and fuel the girl’s dreams by providing spaces for them to show their thoughts, like the upcoming photo exhibit.
